You work at a firm with hundreds of lawyers in offices across the country. It does you no good to put your face on billboards; we don’t represent plaintiffs in slip-and-falls. The term networking is sometimes overused and often misunderstood. Some people think that networking merely means using contacts to find jobs. Others dismiss it as psychobabble, a campy way to mystify something that is very simple. Both these perceptions contain grains of truth, but miss the big picture.
What would possess a litigant to put his attorney on the witness stand or the attorney’s advice at issue? At first glance, many tactical considerations weigh in favor of such efforts. For example, in today’s environment of complex commercial litigation a litigant’s attorney typically has the best command of the facts.
