Developing and mastering a Social Security practice for clients with mental and physical disabilities can be tough. It is critical that you provide your clients with the best service possible while being cognizant of their disabilities. Yet practicing in this area of the law can be both lucrative and rewarding.
This program focuses on how lawyers can better serve clients with disabilities who are claimants for Social Security benefits. Panelists cover this topic from both the view points of an experienced practitioner and an administrative law judge (ALJ). Specifically the panelists focus on:- a brief introduction to the benefits process of the Social Security Administration (SSA), including Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI);
- how to collect and comprehend your client's medical documents;
- how to understand the 5-step sequential process and the SSA Listing of Impairments;
- how to interact with your client and prepare him or her for an appearance before an ALJ;
- how to present your case before an ALJ; and
- how to use Social Security rulings to your benefit when forming a case.
