The Lawyer's Essential Guide to Writing is a readable, concrete guide to contemporary legal writing. Based on Marie Buckley's years of experience coaching lawyers, this book provides a systematic approach to all forms of written communication, from memoranda and briefs to e-mail and blogs. The book sets forth three principles for powerful writing and shows how to apply those principles to develop a clean and confident style.

Marie Buckley is the founder of Legal Advocacy Workshops and has been training lawyers at major firms for over a decade. She has worked individually with over one thousand lawyers and lectures regularly on legal writing at law firms.
She graduated from Bowdoin College, magna cum laude, and from Boston University School of Law. Following law school, Marie was a litigator at a major Boston law firm and handled a wide variety of cases, including multi-million dollar contract disputes, failed acquisitions, pension disputes, anti-trust defenses, toxic torts, white-collar crime, SEC investigations and insurance fraud. She was also appointed Special Counsel to the Board of Bar Overseers. She has tried cases and argued in many courts, including the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
