This webinar will present an in-depth analysis of the importance of the initial interview with a potential client and divorce attorney. Basic interview techniques to be examined will include:
- Initial eye contact, body orientation and other nonverbal cues.
- Active listening and reflection.
- Validation of emotional experience.
- Acknowledgement of the difficulty and complexity of the situation.
Dr. Amy Wilson will explain the basic tenets of anxiety and depression, which are common presenting issues for clients going through a divorce. She will help in identifying these issues and explain how attorneys can develop clinical interview skills. Dr. Wilson also will discuss the major psychological personality disorders common in divorcing parties. Dr. Wilson and Mr. Edlin will demonstrate these psychological personality disorders with Mr. Edlin taking on the role of interviewing attorney and Dr. Wilson taking on the role of the client.
