Description

This 90-minute program will discuss federal, state, and local protections for transgender individuals in the areas of employment discrimination.

For example, panelists will provide an update on how the existing prohibition of sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 may cover claims of discrimination based on gender identity through the gender stereotyping theory under the Price Waterhouse v. Hopkins line of cases as well as through other theories presented in Schroer v. Billington (Library of Congress).

In addition, panelists will discuss best practices for transgender and gender-non-conforming employees and applicants, which address many common workplace issues such as records management, employer-sponsored insurance and retirement benefits, use of restrooms, privacy issues, and maintenance of a safe and non-hostile working environment.
