Program Description
The program will bring together a panel of legal and medical experts who will address the widespread adoption of clinical practice guidelines, checklists and other tools that are being used by health care providers in an effort to reduce medical errors (and related medical liability) and improve patient safety.
The program will explore such issues as whether the government will push to encourage evidence-based medicine and quality measurement tools through accountable care organizations and other value-based purchasing programs. A related issue is whether such efforts would lead to improved patient safety and quality or would be used solely to insulate health care providers from responsibility from their negligent actions.
With health care policy still at the forefront of the national debate, the panel will discuss these questions, look at ABA policies that might apply to this issue and look at the practical implications for attorneys who represent patients, providers and regulators in this changing environment.
