Program Description
As one of his final acts in office, Mexico’s now former president, Felipe Calderón, signed a decree substantially modifying the country’s Federal Labor Law on November 29th. This Webinar will explore the global effect of new reform legislation to Mexico's labor and employment laws, which have significantly changed the scope of employment rights in Mexico.
Historically, Mexico's labor code has been known for being pro labor and very protective of employee and union workplace rights. Brazil and other Latin American countries have modeled themselves on Mexico and in many respects have passed expansive employment rights laws in addition to the strong employee rights that exist under their constitutions.
This panel will explore the ever changing landscape in Mexico and Latin America (including Venezuela and Colombia) and what these reforms mean to global businesses, employees and unions posing the questions: "Will Mexico’s move to labor flexibility in outsourcing, and termination prove durable? How much will it influence other countries in the region? Will it help or hurt the global economy?"
