Welcome to the website of the Section's Technology and Financial Resources Task Force (TFR Task Force). The TFR Task Force has assumed the responsibilities of the Technology Resources Committee, which was created in Fall 2007 to facilitate the effective use of technology across its leadership and by its members.
TFR Task Force members are currently working hard to initiate a diverse range of technology-related projects including:
- implementing new approaches for delivering content to members;
- coordinating social media (such as Facebook, Linkedin Groups, and Twitter) used by the Section, its Committees and for Section events;
- developing and presenting technology-related programs and brown bags to the membership;
- implementing "best practices" and other devices to promote the use of technology by the Section's leadership;
- promoting leadership and member awareness of the Section's internal and external technology and information projects and programs; and
- improving the Section's technical capabilities and addressing technology-related issues of common interest and concern to Section members.

Link shortening
Linking to content rather than attaching the content itself to listserves and other social media is a great way to preserve the link in an announcement and reduce the size of a message. There are a number of free services for shortening URL links. All you need do is insert the link and the tool produces an abbreviated link that is simpler to post and follow.
Link Shorteners
Here is an article discussing alternatives and the relative popularity for each service. At the time of this January 2010 article, tiny.url, bit.ly and is.gd were the most popular shorteners. Another benefit of using some of these services if you have an account, you can receive analytics on how popular your link is.
Hyperlinks
Another option is to hyperlink text, by selecting text in an email, right clicking, selecting "Hyperlink" and then inputting a web address (when possible).
