Message From the Chair

Welcome to the GPSolo Division's Young Lawyers Committee!

As Chair of the Young Lawyers' Committee of the ABA Solo, Small Firm and General Practice (GPSolo), I welcome you to our website. In this Chair's Message, I will introduce you to our Task Force, highlight some of what we have done during the year, and preview what we are planning for the future.

GPSolo is an excellent place for young lawyers. GPSolo provides many opportunities to grow as lawyers both professionally and personally. The Division provides new or young lawyers countless leadership opportunities and the ability to get more involved with the ABA. The Young Lawyers' Committee is a fantastic place to find resources that you can use for your practice. We offer CLE programming, free brown bag series, and events at numerous conferences. We are an active committee and we coordinate efforts with the Young Lawyer's Division (YLD) Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Committee. We use listservs to connect with lawyers all over the country and we are able to share resources including templates and sample briefs. We often send referrals to one another and provide updates on technology and resources that help solo and small firms. We also provide great brown bag programing catering to different niche areas of the law.

The Young Lawyer's Committee has a strong relationship with the ABA YLD Division. Currently, YLD's Chair, Anna Romanskaya, is very supportive of Solo and Small Firms, being that she is a Partner of a small firm. We are excited to partner on many events for this upcoming bar year. If you're a young lawyer and not a member of the Young Lawyers Committee, please consider joining by clicking on the link "Join us" link. As a solo attorney with an active background in the ABA, I understand the important role GPSolo provides to new or young lawyers, especially with the recent influx of young lawyers who are opening up their own practices. The Young Lawyers Committee provides a perfect opportunity to participate in events, access information of interest to young lawyers, and meet other members of the Division.

We look forward to working with you in 2016-2017.

"101 Series" for Young Lawyers

The ABA Young Lawyers Division’s member-service project, the “the 101 Series”, provides short articles and checklists on how-to topics for young lawyers. The GPSolo Young Lawyers Committee has highlighted some of the most helpful articles for young lawyers who are general practitioners or practice alone or in a small firm. Public Service Tolerance Through Education Initiative Welcome to School: Helping Kids Belong The headlines continue concerning hate motivated attacks against individuals in our communities. As our schoolyards and workplaces continue to become a mosaic of cultures, the need for teaching tolerance remains a timely and important undertaking. You can be an instrumental part of teaching tolerance through education by participating in the Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division's national public service project.
