This committee follows US, Canadian and other export controls and embargoes and sanctions programs. With respect to the U.S., economic sanctions are administered by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC); U.S. export controls on military items are administered by the State Department's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, dual-use items are adminstered by the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security. Particular recent areas of focus include the US Export Control Reform Initiative, extraterritorial effect of U.S. export controls and sanctions; revisions to the Export Administration Regulations and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, including recent proposed rules on dual and third country nationals, brokering and defense services; OFAC enforcement guidelines; and the intersection between U.S. technology controls and foreign country laws. The committee actively participates in policy formation, organizes and promotes programs on sanctions and export control topics and regularly publishes a newsletter.
