2015 Law Student Reporters Program

HNBA/Microsoft Intellectual Property Institute (IPLI)
Dear LSAG Members:
I’d like to draw your attention to a fantastic professional development opportunity for current diverse law students, created by a trail-blazing and bold partnership between the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and Microsoft Corporation to increase the number of Latino lawyers in U.S. intellectual property law.
Specifically, the HNBA/Microsoft Intellectual Property Institute (IPLI)—an IP immersion summer program in Washington, D.C. with all expenses covered—was created to provide opportunities for Latino students interested in IP law (patents, copyrights, trade secrets and trademarks) to receive substantive instruction, opportunities to observe U.S. IP institutions at work, and the chance to meet leading members of the IP legal community who will serve as mentors and potentially provide pathways for future job opportunities.
The third annual IPLI will take place from May 31-June 6, 2015. Candidates (rising 2Ls or rising 3Ls who have already completed 1st year of classes by May 31, 2015) will be selected by the HNBA in a highly competitive process. Applications to participate in IPLI 2015 are being accepted by the HNBA through March 31, 2015.
If you are interested in applying (or know someone else who might be interested), more information about IPLI 2015 can be found here: http://www.hnba.com/main/view_event/18/1.
Neither the ABA nor the IP Section are sponsors of this event, but regardless, I hope that some of our members will apply (or encourage someone else to apply) to participate in this innovative and unique opportunity for future diverse attorneys.
Student Leaders Wanted!
The Law Student Action Group (LSAG) of the ABA Intellectual Property Law Section is looking for student leaders to join our ranks. We are currently looking for a Vice Chair of the Publications Subcommittee, a Vice Chair of the Outreach and Membership Subcommittee, and a Chair and Vice Chair of the Mentoring Subcommittee. These leaders will have the following responsibilities:
- Publications Subcommittee — Coordinate law student authors interested in writing for the LSAG Blog; brainstorm ideas for blog articles and solicit ideas from LSAG leadership and LSAG membership; develop and implement related initiatives based on need; author your own blog articles from time to time; work with the Chair on all the above.
- Outreach and Membership Subcommittee —Liaise between LSAG and law school IP groups; develop and implement initiatives to engage law school IP groups, for example, by offering to help school groups reach out to ABA-IPL attorneys to speak on IP panels; create and maintain a list of LSAG members with help from the Communications Subcommittee Vice Chair; engage with LSAG membership; assist Membership & Outreach Subcommittee Chair with activities and programs from the ABA-IPL Membership Board.
- Mentoring Subcommittee -- Manage LSAG's mentoring program, which pairs active LSAG law student members with IP attorneys throughout the nation.
To apply, please send an email to email@example.com with: 1) the subcommittee chair position you are applying for, 2) a paragraph detailing relevant past or present leadership experience (law school, undergrad, professional associations), 3) a paragraph or two explaining why you want this subcommittee position and what you would do with the position, and 4) your resume. Application emails are accepted on a rolling basis and will be considered on a rolling basis, but please submit your application ASAP for the best chances of selection.
