Virtual Worlds and Multi-user Online Games Committee

Announcements

Welcome to the Virtual Worlds and Multi-user Online Games Committee!

The 2012-2013 ABA Year should bring a number of new and evolving issues to discuss and analyze. Our Committee is dedicated to the issues in and related to virtual worlds and multi-user online environments. This includes virtual world environments, such as Second Life, as well as more traditional online gaming environments, from simple multiplayer gaming to MMO environments. Over the past few years, this area has evolved to include new fronts like social gaming, mobile gaming, and augmented reality. If these are issues that challenge you on a daily basis in your practice, or are simply interesting to you on a personal level, I would invite you to join our Committee.

With ths mission of providing education on these often complex legal issues, the Committee hopes to undertake a number of writing and CLE projects in the future. If you are interested in participating in any Committee projects, or wish to propose a project for the Committee, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Thanks,
Mark Methenitis
Chair, Virtual Worlds and Multi-user Online Games Committee

About the Committee

The Virtual Worlds and Multiuser Online Games Committee (VWMOG Committee) of the Section of Science and Technology Law of the ABA focuses on the legal issues raised by the existence of virtual worlds and massively multiplayer on-line role playing games (MMO games).

The ongoing success and expansion of virtual worlds and MMO games increases the likelihood of both legislation and litigation. The VWMOG Committee addresses issues including virtual property rights, virtual securities trading, crimes committed in virtual worlds, taxation of transactions of virtual property, contracts between users and providers, and the legal rights of users.
