About the Program

The American Bar Association Commission on Ethics 20/20 is examining the impact of globalization and technology on the legal profession. In particular, one of the Commission?s Working Groups has been studying whether lawyers and law firms might be able to better serve their clients, while maintaining all necessary client protections, if the firms were allowed to structure themselves differently than is currently permitted under the Model Rules of Professional Conduct (that is, create ?alternative business structures?).

The teleconference will discuss the ABS Working Group?s Issue Paper that explores the impact of recent domestic and international developments and that asks whether alternative business structures might serve to enhance access to legal services for those otherwise unable to afford them, and to provide new and varied opportunities for U.S. lawyers and law firms to better serve clients.

A copy of the Issues Paper is available online at http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/administrative/ethics_2020/abs_issues_paper.authcheckdam.pdf, and comments received in response to it are posted on the Ethics 20/20 website at http://www.americanbar.org/groups/professional_responsibility/aba_commission_on_ethics_20_20.html

If you are a young lawyer interested in weighing in on the ABA Commission on Ethics 20/20 issues, please attend this important teleconference.

Please note: The ABA is not requesting CLE accreditation for this program.
