The CPR/SOC Joint Committee on Ethics and Professionalism was created to assist Sections and Divisions and the Center for Professional Responsibility in coordinating professionalism initiatives to ensure the maximum use of available resources. This includes identifying professionalism and ethics issues; alerting Joint Committee members to ABA projects and initiatives that could benefit from Section/Division input and comments; working jointly on ethics CLE projects; making recommendations to the ABA Standing Committees on Ethics, Professionalism, Client Protection and Professional Discipline; and serving as a forum for the general exchange of information among ABA entities relative to ethics and professionalism. The Joint Committee also serves as an early warning vehicle to spot potential problems when projects are launched that may affect ABA policy or other Section/Division work in progress.
If a Section or Division has an ethics or professional responsibility committee, the chair of that committee usually serves as the representative to the Joint Committee. Sections and Divisions that do not have an ethics or related committee, are encouraged to make an appointment to ensure representation of their entity on the committee.
