Rule of Law Initiatives / Goal IV

The Association’s fourth goal, “to promote the rule of law in the world” is advance by the Section’s international initiatives. The Section’s current Rule of Law Initiatives include:

IMPOWR: The International Models Project on Women's Rights Task Force

The IMPOWR Task Force is working to establish a collaborative online information resource on gender-equality law reform efforts around the world to support project leaders and stakeholders implementing CEDAW and the 2005 Paris Declaration. This project is breaking new ground by harnessing the collaborative power of the internet to leverage the collective expertise of lawyers worldwide to further the objectives of gender equality under the rule of law.

The Task Force is seeking to involve Section Members in a range of interesting activities to support the current database project as well as to build a core of active participants on a ongoing basis. Task Force volunteers will have an exceptional opportunity to work closely with international organizations, academic institutions, NGOs, foreign bar associations and gender-law experts around the world on critically important gender law issues. For more information, visit: www.impowr.org.

International IPR Advisory Program

The Section of International Law is working with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy on an International Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Advisory Program that allows American small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) to receive a free, one-hour consultation with an experienced volunteer attorney regarding the protection of its intellectual property rights (IPR) in Brazil, Russia, India, China, Egypt, or Thailand. The program will assist SMEs in the protection of their intellectual property rights, such as trademarks, patents, or copyrights, and to advise them on what to do with any concrete problems that have arisen.
