ILEX Briefing Trip to Australia and New Zealand

February 5-13, 2010

The International Legal Exchange (ILEX) Program of the ABA Section of International Law organized a Briefing Trip to Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand in February 2010. Led by ABA SIL Chair Glenn Hendrix, the delegation included prominent lawyers, judges and academics, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

In conjunction with the ILEX Briefing Trip, the Section organized a one-day conference on February 9 and moot court demonstration on February 10. The theme of the ILEX conference was Australian and U.S. perspectives on "Cross-Border Collaboration, Convergence and Conflict: The Internationalization of Domestic Law and Its Consequences." The conference was held in the Banco Court of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and the moot court demonstration was held at the University of Sydney Law School. The conference was organized in conjunction with the Law Council of Australia, Law Society of New South Wales and New South Wales Bar Association.

Rule of Law Panel Series

On April 14, 2010, the ABA-UNDP International Legal Resource Center (ILRC) co-hosted a program with various entities within the ABA Section of International Law, and the  ABA Center for Human Rights, entitled “Legal Empowerment of the Poor: the UN’s Newest Call to Action.”  For panel details, click here.


On April 16th, 2010, the ABA-UNDP International Legal Resource Center (ILRC) co-hosted a program with the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group), Rule of Law-Technical Legal Assistance Board, and the Law Society of England and Wales, entitled “Cutting Red Tape and Unlocking Blocked Assets: ADR as a Strategic Vehicle in Developing Countries.” For panel details, click here.
