International Law Publications - The International Lawyer

The International Lawyer (TIL) is the award-winning quarterly legal journal of the International Law Section with a worldwide circulation of more than 15,000. The journal publishes substantive articles on current issues and developments in international law and practice, as well as noteworthy papers from Section programs and the Section’s reports and recommendations to the ABA House of Delegates. The Summer issue contains a review of significant developments in international law over the past year (the Year-in-Review) and is prepared by the responsible Section committees.

Members of the Section of International Law receive The International Lawyer free as a benefit of membership.

About The International Lawyer

The International Lawyer (ISSN: 0020-7810) is published quarterly by the American Bar Association Section of International Law in cooperation with the SMU School of Law, and is produced by ABA Publishing. The International Lawyer focuses on practical issues facing lawyers engaged in international practice, with a primary interest in topics concerning trade, licensing, direct investment, finance, taxation, litigation, and dispute resolution.


Information for Authors

The International Lawyer welcomes the submission of original articles, comments, notes, and book reviews. Articles submitted for publication should not exceed 10,000 words (including endnotes). Text and endnotes should be double-spaced. Endnotes must conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (18th edition, 2005) (Harvard Law Review Association). The International Lawyer does not accept unsolicited student-written submissions nor does it consider articles or reports that have been or are to be published elsewhere.

All article submissions must be sent in an electronic Word format. Submit to eic-til@mail.smu.edu or send a hard copy with an electronic Word-formatted copy of the article to:

Manuscripts receive peer review, which usually takes three (3) to four (4) weeks. Publication is normally nine (9) to twelve (12) months after a manuscript is accepted. The editors of The International Lawyer reserve the right to move an accepted manuscript from the committed issue to a later issue.


Subscriptions and Back Issues

Individual subscriptions to The International Lawyer are available for $60 per year ($75 if mailed outside of the United States). The special summer and fall issues are available for $30 each, and most other issues may be purchased for $10 each, plus $3.95-$5.95 for shipping and handling.
