Description: The Associate in Applied Science Paralegal Degree program at Finger Lakes Community College is designed to prepare the student for entry into the job market immediately upon graduation. Further, our class sizes are small, which allow students individualized attention while fulfilling their educational goals. Description: The Hofstra University Paralegal Studies Certificate Program is a 306 – clock – hour curriculum providing training in practical aspects of the law. It is a noncredit certificate program designed to prepare for a smooth transition from the classroom to a law office environment. Courses are designed to provide students with paralegal skills that are most in demand by employers. A day and evening schedule is available. The Day Program is a full time program completing in 6 months. The Evening Program is a part-time program completing in 9 months. Courses of study are: Introduction to Law, Legal Research and Writing, Civil Litigation, Business Organizations, Real Estate, Bankruptcy, Contracts, Estates, Trusts and Wills, Family Law and Criminal Law. All courses are taught by practitioners or Judges. Applicants are required to complete an application, submit a 100-200 word professional intent and rational, and provide an official college transcript reflecting a minimum of 60 earned college credits. All applications are reviewed by an Admissions committee.

Description: Nassau Community College offers two types of ABA approved programs - an AAS Degree and a Certificate in Paralegal Studies. The objectives of the program include training the graduate to: Assist in legal research and preparation of memoranda of law, assist in litigation, assist in the preparation of diverse legal documents, and handle client interviews and case scheduling. The student may attend day, evening, or weekend classes, and career guidance and resume and interview workshops are offered. The program features a very active student Paralegal Club which runs special trips, lectures, and a Moot Court competition. Classes are small and are taught by practicing attorneys.

Description: Syracuse University's program was founded in 1979 by University College, in cooperation with the judiciary and the New York State and County Bar Assocations. The program has been approved by the American Bar Association since 1983. Designed for adults seeking employment in a legal setting, the Programs develop competencies in both substantive and procedural law and foster the development of skills in legal research and writing, drafting of legal documents, interaction with clients, legal administration, and legal ethics. The program includes coursework in such areas as litigation, commercial law, real estate, business organizations, civil practice, estates, criminal law, family law, and law office technology. Graduates are qualified to work in a variety of legal environments as paralegals or legal assistants and perform independent legal work under the general supervision of a lawyer.
