Description: The Paralegal Studies program (located within the Business Division at Amarillo College) was first offered during the fall 1999 semester and received ABA approval in February 2006. It is a two-year program that requires 71-72 semester credit hours. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. The curriculum is composed of 21 credit hours of General Education requirements, 38-39 credit hours of Paralegal Studies courses, and 16 credit hours of Office Administration courses. All Paralegal Studies courses are offered as evening or weekend courses. Paralegal Studies courses are offered during the spring, summer and fall semesters. Students choose to complete either the Paralegal Studies Practicum (2 credit hours) or Advanced Civil Litigation (three credit hours).

Description: The AAS program ensures thorough
preparation for a paralegal career by providing an intense study
of many areas of law including law specialty courses such as Immigration
Law, Criminal Law, and Wills, Trusts and Probate. General education
and computer courses complete the requirements for this program.
Applicants must hold a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
The Paralegal Certificate program is designed specifically for
college graduates. The curriculum is streamlined to provide education
in the most employable areas of law including courses such as
Personal Injury, Corporate and Business Law, Family Law, Intellectual
Property and Real Estate.

Description: The Legal Assistant program is part of the Business and Computer Science Department at Lamar State College - Port Arthur. It began in 1992 and received ABA approval in February 2000. It is a two-year program that requires 72 semester credit hours. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. The curriculum is composed of 18 credit hours of General Education requirements, 35 credit hours of Legal Assistant courses and 19 credit hours of Office Administration courses. All Legal Assistant courses are offered as day and evening courses. Legal Assistant courses are offered during the Fall and Spring Semesters and during the summer Terms.
