Support for Diversity Bar Associations

    ABA Center for Pro Bono
The Center for Pro Bono provides technical assistance and planning advice to bar associations and other organizations, at no cost, to assist in the strengthening of their pro bono endeavors. Let the Center know what your needs are -- visit our Center for Pro Bono web pages or email

    Liaisons from National Diversity Bars
The Pro Bono Committee has developed a formal liaison policy with partial travel reimbursement to facilitate the participation of the national diversity bar associations in the Pro Bono Committee's activities. The Pro Bono Committee extends invitations to the National Bar Association, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association to appoint liasons.

Our Relationship with the Coalition of Bars of Color (CBAC)
The Pro Bono Committee participates regularly in the ABA President-Elect's winter meeting with the members of the CBAC. This past year, the Committee waived one Equal Justice Conference registration fee for a CBAC member and made available a complimentary luncheon ticket to the Pro Bono Publico Awards Assembly Luncheon at the ABA Annual Meeting.

Diversity at the Equal Justice Conference
In 2001, the Pro Bono Committee developed a policy whereby staff and workshop planners are strongly encouraged to make an affirmative effort to ensure ethnic and gender diversity on all Equal Justice Conference workshop panels. As a result diversity issues are included in many of the substantive programs at the conference and a significant percentage of presenters are persons of color. For information about registering for the Equal Justice Conference, contact Tamaara Mason-Piquion at 312.988-5756 or or visit our Equal Justice Conference web page.

    Pro Bono Publico Awards
The Pro Bono Committee welcomes pro bono publico awards nominations for lawyers of color. Please submit your nominations of those you know who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to pro bono service. We need your help! See our Pro Bono Publico Awards web pages for more information.
