There is no budget beyond the salary of the coordinator.
Student Run Pro Bono Groups/Specialized Law Education Projects
VLSP – Students, with oversight of faculty members and local attorneys, provided variety legal services for indigent clients.

Awards/Recognition
All students who devote a significant amount of time to pro bono service during their law school careers will be recognized formally at graduation, will wear a special cord at the ceremony, and receive a special notation on their transcripts designating their service.
Community Service
Community service is promoted by the Campus Ministry and by numerous student organizations.

Public Interest Centers
The Office of Social Justice, which is funded by a two-year grant and run by Gabrielle Williamson, oversees the school activities. The Office of Social Justice and the School of Law's Clinic collaborate on projects.
Public Interest Clinics
The School of Law's Clinic – The School of Law's Clinic accepts cases for those who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. In addition to working directly with clients, students enrolled in the credit-bearing clinic also take a class to develop skills.
Externships/Internships
The School of Law offers a judicial externship placement (county, state or federal court) for second or third year students.
Classes with a Public Service Component
Health Care Law – Professor Vernelia Randall's Health Care Law class requires enrolled students to volunteer in nursing homes. For more information, contact 937/229-3378 or randall@udayton.edu.
Public Interest Journals
The School of Law sponosrs a quarterly social justice column in the Dayton Lawyer Magazine, a publication for law graduates and others in community.
Public Interest Career Assistance
UDSL hosted a number of workshops and programs designed to educate students about the multiple virtues of available public service employment opportunities.
Loan Repayment Assistance Programs (LRAP)
None, but the School of Law is exploring the possibility of establishing a program.

Term Time Fellowships/Scholarships
Law School Funded:
The School offers 10-15 $1,000-1,500 scholarship annually for community involvement. For more information, contact Janet Hines, Director of Admissions at 937/229-3555. The amounts and number of scholarships awarded vary, depending on funds earmarked in the school budget.
Social Justice Scholarship - Eligibility for Social Justice Scholarship Consideration is limited to current first and second-year law students who are in good academic standing at the School of Law. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of commitment to public service/pro bono work and/or an expressed intention to undertake such work during the coming summer and possibly upon graduation. While it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of the types of public service and pro bono work that would qualify a student for consideration of the Social Justice Awards, the following may be suggestive: Legal Aid and public defender offices; youth and family service organizations; or various nonprofit organizations (e.g., civil rights-civil liberties groups; religious organizations; environmental groups).
