Consumer Litigation Committee

This committee focuses on the rights of consumers and on issues relevant to businesses whose operations implicate or are impacted by the statutory and common-law rights of consumers. The topics that are within the ambit of the Consumer Litigation Committee include consumer credit rights, marketing and advertising regulations and restrictions, mortgage and foreclosure transactions, and privacy and information security rights and remedies. This committee also follows and reports on procedural aspects of litigating consumer-rights issues including arbitration and class actions. It is the goal of the Consumer Litigation Committee to become the preeminent resource for keeping abreast of the latest developments in consumer-rights law and for networking with other lawyers who practice in the consumer-rights arena.

Message from the Chairs

As we continue to reconstitute the Consumer Litigation Committee, we have worked to put in place the structure needed to make our committee the premier resource for substantive content about, including the latest developments in consumer litigation and law. There are still significant opportunities to get involved.

We have established subcommittees, listed below, devoted to the operations of the committee or specific legal issues or procedural aspects of litigating consumer claims. We are seeking cochairs for our subcommittees focused on each of these areas who are willing and able to provide content (directly or by solicitations to colleagues) for our committee's website and newsletters, and who can also develop proposed programs for presenting at upcoming ABA meetings addressing some particular aspect or new development in these areas of consumer-litigation practice. In addition, we are seeking committee members who will coordinate the solicitation and preparation of program proposals, who will coordinate the solicitation and preparation of articles for our committee's quarterly newsletters, and who will take primary responsibility for soliciting new committee members and for planning meetings and/or networking events for our committee.

Your active involvement in the Consumer Litigation Committee will provide numerous and excellent opportunities for highlighting and enhancing your professional knowledge, expertise, and profile; it will provide a "one-stop" source for keeping abreast of all of the latest developments in consumer-rights litigation; and it will lead you to develop relationships that will enrich your professional and personal life for years to come. Get involved now by letting one of us know how you want to do so and how you believe you can best participate in the efforts and activities of our committee.
