Message from the Chairs
It's hard to believe that it has been three years since I joined John James as cochair of the Section of Litigation ICLC. My term is coming to an end and I am pleased to announce that the Section of Litigation leadership has appointed Ron Kammer as the new insurer-side cochair of our committee to serve along side Mary Craig Calkins. I am leaving the cochair position with confidence that the committee is in good hands and that it has a wealth of strong leaders to call upon in the years to come.
The ICLC is as strong as ever, guided by a long-range planning committee and three-year plan looking to the future growth of our group. As fall approaches, we are moving toward the season of appointments and reappointments of our ICLC subcommittee cochairs, and I hope all of you will continue in leadership roles in the committee. You also should think about ways to continue to expand our membership and involve others in the Section of Litigation ICLC. Great strides have been made through the diversity subcommittee's efforts together with the in-house counsel subcommittee, the women's task force and the Young Lawyers group. I would like especially to thank the leadership of those subcommittees for their extraordinary contributions.
I also applaud our editorial boards for Coverage and the website. I look forward to the continued success of our journal-quality publication, Coverage. We have managed to obtain both print and electronic distribution of Coverage over the past few years, increasing its availability and accessibility to all members. I know that Coverage will continue to be a hallmark of the committee's work. The ICLC also has enjoyed a strong website with a growing amount of noteworthy substantive content. Today, as every day, it seems, the ICLC website editors are at work expanding content for the website.
In programming, while I have been a committee cochair, the ICLC has presented notable distance CLE programs, and made and co-sponsored programs at a variety of ABA events, including at the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution, the Section of Litigation Annual Conference and the ABA Annual meeting. Most important, our committee's own renowned annual CLE meeting is going strong, having reached the milestone of its largest attendance ever in 2010. I know the planning for our meeting in March 2011 is already well-underway—and I look forward to seeing you all at another top-notch event early next year. Last year, the ICLC instituted a charity event in conjunction with our annual meeting, working with the Angel Charity for Children, Inc., which supports nonprofit agencies addressing healthcare, education, child-care, and other needs of children in Pima County, Arizona. This launched a wonderful, structured opportunity for our members to give back to the local community where the ICLC meeting has been held for 20 years.
It has been an honor to serve as an ICLC cochair and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with you in the leadership of the committee. I look forward to continuing to work with you, and to supporting our incoming insurer cochair Ron and continuing policyholder cochair Mary, in the coming year. See you in March!
