Real Estate Litigation and Condemnation Committee
The Real Estate Litigation Committee is involved with real estate disputes and their resolution, including issues of ownership, purchase and sale, title, casualty, and land use. The Committee presents topical and relevant discussions at both the Section and ABA Annual Meetings for litigators involved in real estate disputes. The Committee also produces a periodic newsletter.
Involvement in our committee is a great way to keep your practice up-to-date and get more involved in the Section of Litigation. In addition to seeking contributions to our newsletter and website, we are looking for help with our subcommittees. If you think you might be interested in contributing an article, news & development, or case note; joining a subcommittee; or getting involved in leadership, please let us know.

The Real Estate Litigation Committee is committed to enhanced participation by minority lawyers in its programs and projects. Keeping with this goal, we are partnering with the Section of Real Property Trust and Estate Law to expand the use of their Diversity Speaker Database. The Diversity Speaker Database was created by the Section of Real Property to provide a comprehensive, easily searchable tool to identify speakers proficient in real estate and estate planning law, who are interested in participating in ABA activities. This Diversity Speaker Database is now available to Real Estate Litigation Committee members. We urge you to make use of this tool when planning your CLE programs and publications.
Diverse members are encouraged to submit their information for inclusion into the database here. The ABA definition of diversity includes gender, religion, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, age, and persons with disabilities.
Comments? Please send all feedback on this database to the chair of our Diversity Subcommittee, Eric Mathis.
The latest edition of the Real Estate Litigation e-newsletter is now available.
Welcome and happy new year! Our Real Estate Litigation Committee has been meeting our commitment to the delivery of no less than two member benefits delivered to all members on a monthly basis. Our leadership provides a robust, substantive-article newsletter three times during the year (Marc Goldstein, subcommittee chair), Sound Advice programs with timely topics addressed by renowned speakers monthly (Lorraine Gaulding and Anthony DeProspo, Program Committee vice chairs), and listservs monthly advising our members on the new substantive real estate litigation content available. We encourage you to visit the committee’s home page, which is regularly updated with case reports and news and development items.
We were proud to sponsor a track of three programs at our Section Annual Conference in Chicago on April 26, 2013. The organization of these programs was led by our Program Subcommittee cochairs, Bill Jacobs and Jennifer Fleming. We were lead sponsor for the track on Hot Topics in Real Estate Disaster Litigation: (1) Catastrophic Events . . . The Aftermath of Commercial Properties; (2) The Future of Hydraulic Fracturing Litigation; and (3) The Foreclosure Crisis Puzzle: Navigating the Changing Landscape of Foreclosure.
We are proud to have increased the diversity of our subcommittee cochair ranks, and we have many robust and active subcommittees that help drive our increased substantive programs and written materials. We are seeking to fill several openings and encourage you to volunteer and get involved. Our subcommittee cochairs from across the country meet on a monthly teleconference to tackle a wide agenda of action items, all designed to maintain our cutting-edge efforts to involve and benefit our members.
