†Free law school graduate membership extends until the time of bar admission, provided that the graduate is admitted to the bar within 18 months of his or her law school graduation date. Upon bar admission, the membership will be transferred automatically to lawyer membership status with no payment of dues for up to one year of lawyer membership, provided other eligibility requirements are met.
Membership dues are not deductible as a charitable contribution for income tax purposes but may be deductible in part as a business expense. The ABA estimates that 2 1/2% of your membership dues are allocable to lobbying activities of the Association, and therefore are not deductible for income tax purposes as ordinary and necessary business expenses. |
