The ABA will award four one-hour career coaching sessions and a $1,000 Visa gift card to each of three participating members in a random drawing conducted on June 13, 2014. The drawing pool will include all current ABA members who have recruited at least one new member to the ABA through the Work-Life Balance promotion or who have entered by alternate method. The following official rules apply to all entrants.
Who May Participate
This promotion is open to all Lawyer members of the ABA who have recruited at least one new member in the Work-Life Balance promotion or who have entered by alternate method. Law Student and Associate Members are not eligible. Participating members will be entered only once into the drawing pool. Employees of the ABA and its related organizations and their immediate family or household members are not eligible to enter or win. Entrants must be legal residents of the US and be over the age of 18 or the age of majority.
Method of Entry/Participation
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN THIS PROMOTION. YOUR CHANCES WILL NOT IMPROVE BY A PURCHASE OF ANY KIND. Members may participate by recruiting at least one new member to join the ABA through the Work-Life Balance promotion or by entering via Alternative Entry. Each new member recruited is an additional chance to win. Alternate Entry: A lawyer member may enter the sweepstakes simply by filling out a postcard with his/her name, ABA ID number, and address and mailing it to the American Bar Association, c/o Kirsten Rider, Suite 1600, 321 N. Clark Street, Chicago IL 60654.The ABA will retain a spreadsheet of entrants and, using a random number generator, will select winners from this spreadsheet. The ABA will not be responsible for lost, incomplete, malfunctioning entries or failed computer transmissions. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.
Entries must be submitted on or after 12:00AM CT on January 30, 2014 and be received by the ABA no later than 12:00PM CT on May 31, 2014 to be eligible for the drawing.
Drawing Dates and Notification of Winners
Drawings will be conducted on June 13, 2014. Individuals who recruited at least one new member during the entry period will be automatically entered in the random drawing for the drawings; those who participate by alternate method will also be entered into the random drawing. The ABA will attempt to notify winners within 48 hours of the drawings. The winners will be notified by email, phone or mail, in that order, depending on the contact information supplied in the member profile. The winners will be required to submit a completed W-9 before the prizes will be awarded. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, does not respond within five (5) days from the date the ABA first tries to notify him/her, and/or the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such potential winner forfeits all rights to win the promotion or receive the prize, and an alternate potential winner will be selected at random. Prize Value and Payment of Taxes
The ABA will give away three prizes, each consisting of four career coaching sessions estimated at a value of $1,000 and a $1,000 Visa gift cards. Prizes are nontransferable. Cash equivalency for prizes is not available. The ABA may substitute a prize of equal or greater value. Prize winners are responsible for any and all federal, state and local income or other taxes, fees and like charges which may be associated with their prizes. The fair market value of prizes, estimated at $$2,000, must be included in income. Winners will be required to provide a completed IRS Form 1099-MISC before their prizes may be delivered.
Odds of Winning
The odds of winning the prizes will depend on the total number of members who recruit new ABA members or participate by alternate entry. The potential pool is 400,000.
The drawings are open only to eligible members (defined above) who recruit one new member to the ABA through the Work-Life Balance promotion or who participate through Alternate Entry. The drawings are void where prohibited by law.
