Minutes of the NABE Board Meeting

  • The ABA House of Delegates passed a resolution in Chicago, asking law firms and companies that employ lawyers to encourage their lawyer employees to actively participate in bar association activities with no penalty imposed for such participation. Tom Edmonds, NABE's delegate to the House, voted in favor of the resolution.
  • Tom Edmonds has been appointed to the ABA Standing Committee on Bar Activities, which oversees the Division for Bar Services. The NABE Board is pursuing ways to have more NABE members appointed to this committee in the future.
  • Thanks to the efforts of past Treasurer Tom Pyrz and the DBS staff, NABE is in good shape financially. The 2000-01 audit is complete and shows no major deficiencies.
  • A " meeting buddy" system will be in place for the Philadelphia Midyear Meeting. This program will pair first-time attendees with "old-timers" who will help them become familiar with NABE and get to know someone prior to the meeting so they will not feel out of place. Maria Johnson at DBS will be in charge of this program.
  • Pictures will be taken by Legal Directories at the Philadelphia meeting for the new NABE Pictorial Directory.
  • The Board has proposed an amendment to the bylaws that would allow any officer to serve as liaison to the Program Committee. The bylaws currently designate the Vice President as the liaison to that committee. This proposed amendment will be reviewed by the Bylaws Committee and may be brought before the membership for a vote in Philadelphia.
